Colorado Complete Health for Women is proud to offer the MonaLisa Touch®, a fractional CO2 laser procedure that alleviates the symptoms of vaginal atrophy. After menopause, approximately 50 percent of women over the age of 60 experience symptoms of vaginal dryness, itching, burning, irritation, incontinence and painful intercourse*. Most commonly, vaginal walls lose elasticity and appear thinner due to a lack of estrogen. This can be uncomfortable and result in emotional distress or sexual dysfunction.

What is the MonaLisa Touch®?

The MonaLisa Touch® is a minimally invasive fractional laser procedure that delivers light and heat to vaginal tissue. The CO2 laser activates your own innate healing to increase collagen and elastic fibers.

MonaLisa Touch® is completed in-office, and, due to the painlessness of the procedure, no anesthesia is required. A total of three sessions are required to reap the full benefits. Each session lasts approximately 5 minutes and is scheduled about 6 weeks apart. An annual maintenance treatment is also recommended.

How Does the MonaLisa Touch® Help?

The fractional CO2 laser treatment results in restored vaginal health. This means that the symptoms of vaginal atrophy should be improved and the vagina is revitalized since there is an increase in collagen, elastic fibers and blood vessels. In addition, there is a decrease in infection due to the change in the number and composition of cells. Overall, the process compensates for the lack of estrogen and results in vaginal tissue of a premenopausal woman.

What to Expect

Prior to the procedure, a consultation will occur to ensure that you are a candidate for the laser. During this evaluation a speculum exam will be performed in order to ensure that there are not any contraindications to performing the MonaLisa Touch. At each treatment session a vaginal probe will be inserted to administer the laser energy, a process most patients describe as a slight vibration and not causing discomfort.

Expected Results

After the procedure, symptoms of vaginal atrophy should be improved, with the revitalization of the vagina. We recommend avoiding having sex for one week after each session, and be sure to consult with your physician regarding any other health questions.
